Edward Jablonski
, the distinguished biographer of the composers Gershwin, Arlen, Berlin and others, and close friend of the Gershwin family, speaks about Jack Gibbons' unique recreation of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, reconstructed from the composer's original piano roll recording of 1925, as well as Gershwin's live recordings of 1924 and 1926. This video clip begins with a shot of Gibbons rehearsing at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London before one of his Gershwin concerts. Gibbons has been performing annual all-Gershwin concerts to capacity crowds at the Queen Elizabeth Hall since 1990. In 2005 he celebrated 16 years of these unique "Authentic Gershwin' concerts with a spectacular programme featuring the Rhapsody in Blue and many of the composer's own show tune improvisations. Gibbons will be performing the Rhapsody and other works of Gershwin, as well as music by Bach, Chopin, Gibbons, etc at Carnegie Hall on Saturday March 3rd 2007 at 8.30pm.
